Work history

Second/Third Year Mentor

University of York
  • Volunteered as a Second/Third Year Mentor during my second year at university which required me to regularly visit first-year students and provide assistance if necessary. This role primarily involved signposting students and helping with minor queries. During my third year I also volunteered as a Head Second/Third Year Contact. This role involved working with the Head STYC team and college to organise and run Fresher’s Week, as well as helping first-year students and running the Second/Third Year Contact program. This improved my ability to work as part of a team, while being in charge of the student volunteers gave me experience in a leadership role.

Placement

Hertfordshire PCC Office
  • Completed a placement at the local Police and Crime Commissioner’s office as part of a placement module. During this placement I:
  • Assisted the Grants and Funds Officer in reviewing innovation bids and responses to fund allocations
  • Shadowed Project Officers and assisted in the running of several events including a Stop and Search Scrutiny Panel and a Criminal Justice Board meeting
  • Attended the Criminal Justice Board meeting as well as research presentations
  • Completed report tasks on several areas that needed to be addressed
  • The placement provided me with an understanding of work in an office setting as well as experience in a policy making workplace.
