Barry Walker

I began my career in June 1998 with Lossie Hydraulics Ltd, based in Peterhead, I was responsible for general workshop duties with related fishing vessels, I was made redundant in Oct 1999 and found myself a similar role with Smith Maritime where my responsibilities was to strip down hydraulic motors and gearboxes, I worked there till January 2001 when again I found myself redundant due to the uncertainty of the local fishing industry.

Between Jan 2001 and Nov 2004 I worked in a number of fitter/ tester positions within the lifting industry. In Nov 2004 I began employment with Bridon Services in Aberdeen carrying out LOLER surveys offshore and working in the workshop stripping, repairing and testing of lifting equipment, I remained in this position until Oct 2005 where I joined Reel group Ltd also carrying out LOLER surveys and NDT inspections offshore.

In January 2007 I began employment with GlobalSantaFe as a roustabout when I was promoted to assistant crane operator and gained my stage 3 crane qualification and was promoted to Crane operator just before the rig I was on was cold stacked.

In June 2010 I joined Sparrows Offshore Services in the position of a crane operator in the ad-hoc pool (flying squad) in Sept 2011 I was transferred to Sparrows Global Resources (PTE) in the position of a Crane operator on the Total Usan FPSO in Nigeria and was there till Feb 2015 where I was transferred back to the North Sea where I worked in the Irish Sea on Kinsale Alpha and Kinsale Bravo.

In May of 2016 I left Sparrows and joined Bumi Armada on the Armada Kraken FPSO project starting off in Singapore then sailing it to the North Sea where I've worked as a Crane operator and also been the Deck foreman due to the rota we work 3/4 3/5. During my time on this project I has successfully lead the deck crew (which is made up for one rigger, one crane operator, two scaffolders and a deck foreman) During this time I has seen the group progress to a well round team that works well together.

• I own a small pleasure boat which I go out fishing with my family on.
