  • At GamCare I use my professional skills and lived experience to work with gambling and gaming companies to drive improvements in the prevention, detection and minimisation of gambling harm
  • I primarily achieve this by supporting and assessing gambling and gaming operators against the Safer Gambling Standard
  • The Safer Gambling Standard is an independent quality standard, accredited by UKAS, which assesses the measures gambling businesses have put in place to protect people from experiencing gambling-related harm
  • These assessments drive improvements, innovation and the sharing of best practice in relation to the prevention, detection and minimisation of gambling harm
  • In addition, I lead and contribute to Safer Gambling Labs, which are bespoke pieces of consultancy work where an organisation requires review and advice in relation to a specific aspect of their business which has safer gambling, or gambling behaviour features
  • I am also very proud to be an accredited Lived Experience Accredited Facilitator and Speaker
  • I publicly my experience of gambling harm with the objective of informing and educating professionals within the gambling industry, and also providing support and comfort to those who may have been directly or indirectly affected by gambling harm.

Insurance - Audit Manager

  • During my time with Lloyds Banking Group, Group Audit function I acted as Lead Auditor on numerous audits in the Insurance Division focusing on a number of topics such as anti-money laundering and financial crime, supplier sourcing and major change projects
  • I also led a number of audits within the Insurance and Wealth Division considering topics such as General Insurance underwriting, reserving, complaints handling, key project governance and resourcing, risk management structures and key control effectiveness in remote locations
  • In addition, I had delegated relationship management responsibilities for Group Audit for an overseas life and pensions business, based in Germany
  • Key responsibilities include stakeholder management, providing a constant view on control framework effectiveness, supporting the Head of Audit, shaping and delivering the audit plan, responding to regulatory requests and representing Group Audit at the relevant Risk Committee
  • Whilst the audit topics I cover have been many and varied, there are a number of fundamental considerations potentially applicable to any review such as the application of regulatory requirements, Group policy, definition and management of risk and the design and effective operation of controls.

  • Leading an assurance audit for East Coast Main Line Ltd which reviewed the key financial controls at their shared services provider
  • Managing an audit team to provide assurance on the systems and data controls in place at Nokia Music
  • Managing the co-sourced internal audit service to National Air Traffic Services (NATS)
  • Managing a key financial controls review for J Sainsbury plc across operations in the UK, Hong Kong and Poland
  • SOX process and control documentation and testing for Wolseley plc (FTSE 100) and Gap


Public Sector

  • Senior Audit Manager responsible for KPMG’s internal audit engagement and service delivery to the Royal Mint Ltd, the National Assembly for Wales Commission and the Arts and Humanities Research Council
  • Manager overseeing the delivery of a fully outsourced internal audit service to the Office for National Statistics including reviews on a number of high profile statistical production processes, change programmes and projects e.g. Census 2011
