Summary

Currently I am working in Surgical assessment Unit at Peterborough City Hospital as a Registered nurse. Where we take Surgical, Urology and ENT patients from ED and undertake initial assessment and support the doctors to assess the patients. We complete an thorough assessment of patients initially with a full set of vital signs, whilst also taking a detailed past medical history, medication history, social history. I am competent in venepuncture and cannulation, ECG, catheterisation, NG tube insertion, undertaking blood gas sampling, urine dip stick and many other skills. I often take charge of the unit so am aware of co-ordinating - I thrive within its busy and demanding environment and I am able to identify and manage the stressors they present. I have developed the fundamental skills of prioritising my workload, being aware of my limitations, challenging practice and escalating concerns in an appropriate manner, when necessary.

I also have 6 months Critical care experience. This opportunity allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge and competence into airway managements, caring for ventilated patients, managing tracheostomy patients and many more. Within this environment I was able to perfect my time keeping skills to ensure patients received all cares and medications in a timely manner as required for these critically unwell patients.
