Baher Ibrahim

Psychiatrist with a strong interest in history, migration, and public health, combining skills in quantitative, qualitative, and archival research. PhD qualification in History of Medicine and Masters qualifications in Global Mental Health and Community Psychiatry. On track to achieve Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists by the end of 2024. Experience in humanitarian, global health, and community development. Author of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on psychiatry and humanitarianism, and contributor to the Royal College of Psychiatrists Special Interest Group newsletters.

• June 2022: Elected Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
• June 2022: Recipient of the Wellcome Trust funded Glasgow Medical Humanities Network (GMHN) Early Career Award.
• Aug 2021-Aug 2022: Charlotte Nicholson Postdoctoral Fellow in History, University of Glasgow.

• Aug 2020: Certified by the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) following completion of the United States Medical Licensing Exams (USMLE) Step 1, Step 2 Clinical Skills, Step 2 Clinical Knowledge.
• Mar 2019: Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) of the UK, following completion of the Professional Linguistics and Assessment Board (PLAB) 1 and 2 exams.
• Mar 2013: Registration with the Egyptian Medical Syndicate.

• Apr - Jun 2016: Data Analyst, Global Fund for Widows. My task was the data analysis and writeup of the results of the program 'Widowhood & economic empowerment: “Al Amal” economic empowerment program: A key study of the benefits of economic empowerment and its links to sustainable development.'
• Feb 2015 - May 2015: Research intern, Médecins du Monde Cairo. My task was the interviewing, participant observation, data analysis, and writeup of the results of the project 'Improving access to mental health services for at-risk populations in Greater Cairo'.
• Sep 2014 - Dec 2014: Research intern, Mental Health Unit, World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO), Cairo. My task was the preliminary development of a curriculum for the region's first Leadership in Mental Health course, which has been running annually since 2015.

• Feb 2023 - present: Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Psychiatry, University of Glasgow. I deliver a yearly lecture to the autumn semester of the MSc in Global Mental Health, in addition to marking MSc theses.
• Sep 2013 - Sep 2015: Teaching Assistant in Psychology, American University in Cairo. I taught undergraduate students on the following courses: Introduction to Psychological Statistics, Research Methods in Psychology, Introduction to Community Psychology.
• I am regularly involved in both didactic and bedside teaching for University of Glasgow medical students undertaking their psychiatry placement.
