I completed a one-week work experience placement in a professional pharmacy environment, where I gained practical insight into the healthcare sector. During my placement, I assisted with dispensing and packing medication, unpacking deliveries, organising and restocking shelves, maintaining a clean and professional environment, supporting customers during busy periods and answering telephone enquiries when required.

I developed strong attention to detail, organisation, communication, teamwork, responsibility and professionalism. I gained an appreciation of the critical importance of accuracy within healthcare, recognising that even a minor error or oversight when handling medication could potentially have serious consequences for a patient’s health and wellbeing. This experience taught me to work carefully, follow procedures precisely and maintain consistently high standards.

I found the experience particularly valuable as I am interested in pursuing a career in dentistry after completing A-levels. My placement broadened my understanding of medicine and healthcare and helped me appreciate how a patient’s medical history and medication can influence their dental care. I developed a greater understanding of the importance of considering a patient’s overall health when delivering safe, effective and patient-centred treatment.
