have shown a great deal of interest and passion in supporting children and adolescents with varying degrees of support needs within my role. I have worked closely with one young expectant mother to support her and reduce the risk of relapse or further family intervention from services and was rehabilitated with my guidance and wrap around interventions that I supported to put in pace for her. I provided an empathetic, non-judgmental and positive service. I have proved my ability to work confidently and independently with some challenging cases, without guidance or advice on pathways available due to my gained knowledge in these areas. Despite my high level of independent skills, I am not averse to receiving comments or advice without offence. However, I have a level of self-awareness and respect to support my best practice. My perseverance through my own personal adversities as a child who faced parental substance use and trauma has enabled me to focus on what interventions are important for children and it is evident this drives my motivation to have a positive impact on those in need and the services offering care / support in my community.
With in my role at MELD i am expected to use psychosocial interventions such as motivational interviewing (MI), Trauma informed practices and formulation skills to support those seeking abstinence or recovery from drugs and / or alcohol. Within MELD I have a strong focus on and passion for supporting young parents and families to ensure Child Protection is in place whilst the parent is working on their recovery practices. As a result I have built up a strong working partnership with multiple external agencies such as Children and Families Social Work,, East Lothian NHS Substance Use Services (ELSUS), GP Services, Psychological services and more, ensuring that those in need or at risk are effectively supported and encouraged in all aspects of their life. I manage a high volume of clients in my workplace and on independent outreach in a local GP practice in Dunbar.
