After arriving to London at a young age, I found it difficult to communicate and socialise with others as my English proficiency was quite poor. Despite this, I tried to communicate with others and found that everybody was actually quite welcoming and understanding of me. Over time, I decided to carry on this kindness and keep an eye out for any in the same situation as me; so I could lend a hand out too. Despite this, without a doubt, the hardest stage of my life was during my A-level, where I felt quite hopeless, despite trying my best. Even though I had spent hours on revising, the exam scores did not reflect it; and as i fell more and more behind my peers all progressed further and further. Even 2 months prior to the exams, my Physics teacher suggested that I could retake the year and perhaps hope to do better next year. However, I felt a signifigant weight of responsibility to uphold the expectations of my friends and family, and thus I requested extra classes from all my subjects, attended every optional classes over the holidays and managed to recieve grades which made everyone around me proud.
This was quite a new experience for me, and perhaps took me by suprise as I did not quite realise how often people enter a restuarant. This was my dads restaurant, so I worked for free and out of my own will as I wanted to gain the experience. I had to greet customers and recommend specific menus and offers, whilst also making sure that nothing displeased them. I had to relay orders over to the chefs, from which I also had to tell them the expected wait time. Sometimes, Id find myself with nothing to do and would help out with washing the dishes, at times of low volume of customers.
These are some of the skills I will be able to demonstrate :
Picasso Award, Mulberry Stepney Green: Awarded for best artist in the academic year.
Gold award, Mulberry Stepney Green: Awarded for reputation and effort during classes.
