I participated in a May fair/ Colour run for 3 years in a row as a fund raiser for my primary school.

Duties:

• Run game stalls
• Explain game rules to parents and children
• Help set up equipment for races

Skills used:

• Communicating efficiently with children and adults to give a useful and clear explanation so games could be carried out as expected.
• Organisation when setting up equipment.

• Successfully delivered papers within tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated respect, friendliness and willingness to help wherever needed (such as when covering others rounds if they were away or delivering extra papers last minute).
• Adapted my route efficiently when new addresses were added to my round.
• Consistently on time to collect papers at 7 am.

I co-hosted an arts and crafts class with other volunteer members of the Fleetwood Nautical Museum During. In this role I had to demonstrate how to build the craft of the day to children and parents, in a way that could be understood and followed by both audiences. I also assisted children along the way if they were struggling. I volunteered twice a week for two weeks while they were understaffed during the summer holidays. This was a lovely experience and I maintained a great relationship with my co-workers. I am now welcome to come back and volunteer any time.

I spent 2 weeks on Work Experience as a Classroom Assistant at Northfold Community Primary School.

Duties:

• Put up multiple displays in the classroom
• Marked assessments
• Took each child out of lesson for 5-10 minutes throughout the day to read to me, I then signed this off in their reading journeys.
• Took photos during dance practices to document children's progression.
• Assisted children in need of extra care during lessons.
• Handed out equipment to allow teacher to continue with lessons.

Skills used:

• Adapted my way of speech to more efficiently communicate with children for an overall better understanding in conversation.
• Multitasking when listening to the children read, i had to listen for correct pronunciations while also asking questions where appropriate to ensure each child was developing the correct understanding for the meaning of each sentence rather than just reading meaningless words from a page. This allowed the children to develop their communication and language, while also allowing my to develop my own multitasking abilities and understanding where asking questions is appropriate.
• Maintained a great relationship with children and staff (polite and friendly conversation at all times)
• Comforting children was a large part in working with year 4 children and I have largely developed my ability to act appropriately in these situations.
