I just recently started in my role as a Deputy Sister in paediatric HDU. My roles and responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
1. Providing direct patient care (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of cares) and performing nursing procedures.
2. Liaising and coordinating care within the members of the team.
3. Taking charge of the unit; supervising, supporting, and assisting junior staff; and ensuring smooth flow of the unit.
4. Allocating patient assignment to nursing staff and safely delegating tasks.
5. Mentoring and assessing students and newly qualified nurses.
6. Ensuring high quality, safe and effective care is provided to patient and families.
7. Completing ward audits, sorting out staffing issues in the absence of the ward manager and ensuring policies and protocols are being adhered to.

I worked as a Senior Staff Nurse/Charge Nurse in a general paediatric unit. My roles and responsibilities include (but not limited) to the following:
