Work History

Teacher of History

Beeslack High School
Penicuik, Midlothian
08.2021 - 02.2025
  • As a teacher of History at Beeslack, ensuring I deliver high-quality lessons to all students is at the core of my professional practice
  • Rigorous planning and continuous engagement with CLPL allows me to adapt each lesson to the learning needs of my students
  • The strength of my practice is underpinned by my positive relationships with both students and staff, this allows me to create a positive learning environment and diffuse challenging situations with ease
  • I am dedicated to raising attainment at Beeslack
  • Recording student results and working with up to date data is important for me and my team to plan purposeful feedback and revision strategies in order for students to make the necessary improvements to their work
  • Working with all stakeholders, especially parents, is a key priority for me to ensure each student is thriving in the History classroom
  • Despite this, my time at Beeslack has not been subjected to only classroom learning
  • I have a continued commitment to the wider school community by actively leading the Rights Respecting School Awards (RRSA)
  • I have also successfully led a school trip to the Battlefields in Belgium and France in June 2023 and have been trusted by senior leadership to carry out this trip for a second time in June 2025
  • The nature of this trip encouraged both staff and students to return to school with a greater understanding of the sacrifices made in WW1, but most importantly work towards embedding peace for our future

PT Learning for Sustainability

Midlothian Council
Penicuik, Midlothian
02.2023 - 06.2024
  • Taking on a leadership role in the Rights Respecting School Awards (RRSA) has allowed me to promote an interdisciplinary learning culture in the wider school community
  • Leading the RRSA student ambassador group has given me the opportunity to further educate students about the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
  • This role involves leading staff to develop their lessons in a way which encourages students to learn the complexities of wider world issues
  • The purpose of this is to have our students become active citizens who are aware of societal issues within their community and global issues which will impact their future
  • This role has given me the opportunity to actively engage with various CPD events, enhance my professional learning to improve my practice and communicate with other secondary schools in the area to make a positive impact on the Midlothian community as a whole
  • During Primary 7 transition into High School, I work with catchment Primary schools to expose our future students to Rights Respecting School Awards (RRSA) and prepare them for how this will look in a Secondary school setting
  • I currently have a lead role working on a whole school Peace Fields Project
  • The project is directly linked to WW1, specifically what we can learn from the 1914 Christmas Truce
  • We are planning a sports day which will have both the school and the wider community involved
  • This is to reflect on an inspiring moment in history while promoting our young people to be peacemakers for our future
  • Despite this project taking place in June 2025, it has already strengthened my relationships across the wider school community and developed connections with key stakeholders in the area
