  • Perform COVID-19 and rapid diagnostic testing in line with UKAS accreditation standards, Trust SOPs, and infection control policies.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide range of POCT devices, including blood gas analysers, glucose meters, urinalysers, and other rapid testing platforms.
  • Carry out daily quality assurance procedures, including internal quality control (IQC), external quality assessment (EQA), calibration, and performance verification.
  • Identify analyser errors and device faults, perform first-line troubleshooting, and escalate complex issues to senior POCT staff to minimise service disruption.
  • Ensure safe handling, processing, and disposal of biological and high-risk specimens in compliance with COSHH, health and safety, and waste management regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation using POCT middleware and laboratory IT systems (e.g. Swisslab, Aegis, EQA portals), ensuring data accuracy and traceability.
  • Support audits, competency assessments, and quality improvement activities to maintain UKAS compliance and service standards.
  • Provide technical advice and hands-on support to nursing and clinical staff, responding to POCT queries and promoting correct device usage.
  • Manage workload independently across multiple POCT locations, prioritising tasks to meet clinical demand and service deadlines.
  • Monitor and replenish stock levels of reagents, consumables, and testing kits to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Contribute to updating SOPs, training materials, and service improvement initiatives within the POCT service.
  • Work collaboratively with Biomedical Scientists, POCT practitioners, clinicians, ward teams, and multidisciplinary staff across Trust sites.
