My earliest memories involve exploring Wakerley woods with my family, something that I still love to do today. I have always adored trees and recently I have been interested in pursuing a career in forestry. I would love to work as part of a team where I can combine my love for trees and learning new skills to contribute to woodland maintenance and conservation efforts. Having spoken to one of your volunteers, Annabelle, about this role, I understand the team is friendly, supportive and a delight to work with.
Over the years I have helped plant trees, hedges and built fences and dry stone walls on my grandparent's farm in Yorkshire, as well as on our family smallholding in Rutland. We have planted mixed native hedging, a variety of fruit trees, willows from cuttings, horse-chestnuts from conkers, birch, hazel, the list goes on! I have also been heavily involved in various eco groups in school. Whilst at Uppingham Community College, I pushed to ban single use plastic from school, and succeeded, planted a wildflower garden to support insects and promoted sustainable alternatives throughout the school. I was also a member of Harington School Eco Group. During my time there, we planted an orchard of fruit trees, turned derelict land into a wildflower meadow and went on trips to learn about preserving habitats and tree management with Ecology Resources.
Conservation and woodland management has always fascinated me and I am determined to expand my knowledge and stay involved in conservation efforts. I am a quick learner with enthusiasm for acquiring new skills. I have proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a strong love and commitment to learning about sustainable forestry practices.
My greatest passion is being outside. I love walking my dogs, camping, sailing, climbing trees and exploring. Horses are also a huge part of my life, having grown up with them and working in the industry for the past 18 months. Our family smallholding also consists of chickens, ducks and around 50 rare breed sheep.
I am also an artist. After completing A-level art, I have done commissions of horses and dogs alongside working at Somerby Equestrian Centre.
Baking is another hobby of mine and I enjoy baking for friends and family as well as work colleagues.
