Summary

I am a caring, proactive nursing team member with strong interpersonal skills and a vision for service improvement. Years of experience in the recovery setting means that I bring expert clinical knowledge and judgment to meet strict high standards of care. I partner fellow nurses and care teams to deliver positive patient outcomes, having a regard for their physical abilities, social support network, customs and religious beliefs. I work closely and independently with both anaesthetic and surgical consultants, undertaking many extended skills, implementing post operative instructions, applying personal experience in assessing any complication arising from underlying medical conditions, anaesthetic or surgery, informing the relevant consultant of concerns that require reviewing. The knowledge I gained from a pain management course has enabled me to expertly manage pain and symptoms with safe and optimum treatment regimens, being the pain link for the hospital has enabled me to promote and share knowledge of the importance of effective post operative pain management, in the past doing teaching sessions on pain and PCA machine competencies, recently working closely with management and reps to up grade and modernise PCA machines.

Through active participation in quality management enables me monitor and improve standards of care and services, through uses of Datix, audits and outcomes of route cause analysis. Encouraging the use of best practice, adhering to and applying local, national polices, challenging and queering colleagues practice if they do not meet the necessary clinical standards/guidelines, intervening where circumstances contribute to unsafe environment for patients and staff. To bring such cirumstances to the attention of the theatre management team.

I have participated emergencies in the local clinical area, utilising the experience to implement corrective actions, as an ILS/PILS provider and a member of the daily emergency team I regularly undergo scenarios within different ares of the hospital setting.

As an active mentor I provide a leadership role to junior staff members, healthcare students and support workers, taking care to monitor and evaluate their work to ensure that standards are maintained and goals successfully being worked toward, including orientating and supporting staff members that are not familiar with the recovery working environment. I frequently utilise research findings, local and national policies within my work to develop new ways of working and to disseminate relevant information to staff.

Participating in regular performance reviews has given me the opportunity to spend time other members of the MDT teams including that of the pre assessment team, reviewing what support I require to improve the quality of care I give my patients and utilising the opportunity to discuss any concerns that I may have. As a member of the NMC I undertake regular revalidation and adhere to their code of conduct within my practice, I undertake frequent mandatory training required, applying knowledge gained to my work to ensure a safe working environment and to maintain a high standard of patient care.
