While it may be common for individuals to judge others based on their interpretations, as an RMN I remain calm and non-judgemental, and listen more when engaging with patients. I usually consider the following when working with a patient and their families such as their sexual orientation, ethnic minorities, and beliefs. I build patients' confidence so that they will not feel isolated, Patients will trust me, and I will in return, support them regardless of their situation. As A RMN, I have acquired effective communication skills to interact effectively with the MDT Team, patients, and their relatives about conditions such as both mental and physical health condition. It's beneficial to listen actively to patients, as even small disclosures can reveal much about their mental state. I was on the shift where a patient had a virtual visit, and it was shopping day. It is a busy day for the ward, so it was crucial to provide support as much as possible by communicating closely with staff during handover, choosing who can do what, and giving them constant reminders to make sure the shift runs effectively and has no issues., Having compassionate skills has made me more sensitive to a patient who is going through challenges and has experienced trauma such as upbringing and being exposed to abuse at a young age which sometimes could lead to personality disorder. I have acquired therapeutic skills to engage and improve patient's experience and help them to live a productive life and contribute to the community. An act of kindness might significantly impact a patient who is going through a mood swing. I use effective talking therapy to de-escalate. The incident, cognitive behavioural therapy, therapeutic engagement, and support observation to minimize risk to others, from themselves, and, from others. This will help to de-escalate triggers according to evidence-based.
