I feel the most important skill I can offer is that I have a wide range of experience and knowledge with working with young people many whom have lived away from home for a variety of reasons. I have raised my own children into becoming strong independent adults who have achieved their ambitions even though at times there has been disappointments. To become a professional footballer takes determination and commitment I feel I have the skills in supporting a young person in working towards achieving their goal.
I am a recently retired nurse (March2026) who has worked within the children in care team in Barnsley for the past 6 years. My role involved conducting health assessments and providing health care plans for young people aged 5 to 19 years old, my caseload consisted mainly of older teens/ young adults. Not only did I assess their general health but also supported them around emotional health and safeguarding issues. Although my past experiences are useful I feel the more important things myself and my partner can offer is that of a comfortable, calm and relaxed home environment. Our home is a family home, We have 4 grown children between us, all who have left home but visit regularly and would describe our home has welcoming and always somewhere to find a good meal.
We feel we could offer a young person a stable and relaxed home, we both have skills that would support a young person in developing their independence skills yet at the same time have the experience of valuing their individuality, choices , views and opinions.
