As an RGN in Emergency Department, my role is fast-paced, demanding critical thinking, rapid assessment, and decisive action.
- Triage and Prioritization with rapidly assess incoming patients based on severity of their condition using triage protocols.
- Provide immediate life-saving care such as CPR, airway management, haemorrhage control, and trauma care.
- Monitor vital signs, perform physical examinations, and identify signs of deterioration.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications, IV fluids, and pain management under physician direction or per protocols.
- Work closely with doctors, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals in emergency response and stabilization.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients and families in crisis situations.
- Ensure accurate and detailed recording of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic and/or paper records.
As an RGN in theatre, I was integral to success of surgical procedures and patient safety before, during, and after surgery.
- Verify patient identity, procedure, and consent.
- Conducting pre-operative assessments, check for allergies, and ensure pre-surgical preparation is completed.
- Manage overall environment, document procedure, and coordinate with surgical team.
- Monitor patient’s condition (vital signs, blood loss) and report concerns promptly
- Report changes in patient condition and manage post-operation complications.
- Adhere to strict infection control standards and ensure sterile techniques are maintained.
- Encourage and assist patient for early ambulation to prevent complication after surgical procedures.
In Out Patient Department (OPD), my role is to support continuity of care, patient education, and assist in various non-emergency but essential medical services.
- Initial Patient Assessment by greeting patients, take vital signs, review medical histories, and assist in clinical examinations.
- Prepare patients and assist with minor surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultations.
- Provide patients with relevant information about medications, treatment plans, and preventive health measures.
- Schedule follow-up appointments, arrange referrals to specialists, and ensure care continuity.
- Maintain clear records of consultations, observations, procedures, and nursing interventions.
- Ensure medical supplies and equipment are stocked and functional.
- Offer emotional reassurance and culturally appropriate care to diverse patient populations.
