Work history

Station Commander

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
Kirkwall, Orkney
09.2020 - 02.2023

In my last role as Station Commander I was responsible for ensuring all aspects of P&P where met for Orkney by allocating work loads to the 2 WC FSEO’s, the Community Safety Advisor & the Islands Management Team. I also sat on numerous partnership groups both internal & external 1 of which was the Orkney Islands inland water rescue group for which I was chair. A further example of the groups I sat on was the Orkney Local Emergency Co-ordinating Group which had responsibility for dealing with any predicted or unforeseen emergencies an Example of these was the COVID 19 pandemic for which I gave permission for local Stations to be used to roll out the vaccine other examples of when this group would sit is power outages, severe weather conditions, loss comms: and any major event effecting the Island. I would also regularly attend the Island scrutiny meetings in stead of the Group Commander.

I also set up a joint training programme with the Scottish Ambulance Service which due to the remoteness of some of the outer Isles allowed major joint exercises to be carried out with not only the Ambulance Service & ourselves but also included the local 1st responders.

Watch Commander

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
Glasgow, Glasgow City
01.2010 - 09.2020

Prior to my appointment to Station Commander I was the Watch Commander of Red Watch at Calton Community Fire Station one of the busier Stations in the city of Glasgow where I was responsible for the day to day running of the Watch & the Station to ensure KPI targets set Area where met. I also ensured that all training & records where maintained i.e LCMS to ensure compliance with the Area priorities & the health & safety of all personnel. Before the Service introduced the COVID control measure I initiated a cleaning routine to once again ensure the health & safety of all Station personnel as this was adopted by all 5 Watches.

I also attained various instructor qualifications during my time as an operational firefighter/Junior Office i.e BAi, RTCo, RTCi, SWAHi, FPOSi, rope rescue operator, flood response operator, community planning office along with various Youth Engagement qualifications i.e Youth Worker level 3, Diversity in the Youth inveronment, Fire Setters intervention.
