Business Owner
Aberdeenshire Paddock Services

I set up my own business to subsidise my apprentice wage, having identified an opportunity in the smallholding and equestrian market, for services provided by a compact tractor where larger machinery could not gain access. I ran the business, often working an additional 40 hours per week, until graduating from my apprenticeship. In addition to furthering my practical expertise I learned how to:
Understand the needs of my customers and communicate effectively with them;
Run a business and manage the finances and record keeping;
Plan and organise myself, especially when affected by changeable weather and the changing seasons;
Manage and look after machinery and chemicals, with a responsible approach to health and safety.
