Summary

Education/Qualifications
Registered General Nurse
Registered Mental Nurse.
I have undertaken additional training relevant to this post over the course of my career.
I enrolled and completed the Leadership training offered by CPFT and Lighthouse in 2017.
I qualified as a Best Interests Assessor (DOLS) in 2009.

I retired in September 2021 from my substantive post as a Team Manager and have continued to work as a Registered Nurse in the NHS through CPFT staff bank. I have a long-term placement with HALT as a Band 6 CPN/Care Coordinator on top of banding since November 2021 working approximately two - three days a week since November 2021.
I have continuous NHS service since November 1984.

I have continued to update and develop professionally through in house and wider training in the trust.
This includes mental health awareness, mandatory training, psychological interventions, diversity and inclusivity.
Whilst some of my training is older this still has relevance in my role, and I update where possible. An example of this is the mental capacity act and DOLS .

I have also undertaken training in solution focused therapy which I employ in my work as well as CAT.
Techniques and approaches learnt still prove extremely useful in my current role.

I continue to be active on the Anglia Ruskin student supervision database.

Experience
My experience of working in Mental Health is varied. I have experience of working in Adult and Older People’s mental health. I have worked with people with functional and organic illness and acute and chronic presentations.
I have experience of working in general hospital, mental health inpatient wards, secure units, day hospital and community settings.
I have worked as a discharge coordinator in physical health care although I have spent most of my working life in mental health care delivery.

I have experience of working with complex issues and offering a range of interventions to support recovery.
I have managed complex and diverse caseloads, adapting to individual needs to achieve positive outcomes.
I have worked as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team. I can adapt quickly and foster positive relationships.
I understand the value and importance of receiving and offering robust supervision and self-reflection to enable deliver of effective interventions and decision making whilst recognising my personal limitations and development needs.
I have completed additional training (though not formal) in Cognitive Analytical Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy.
I favour the latter and find it extremely useful in rapid assessment and decision making. I continue to use this approach and would welcome the opportunity to undertake formal training in this or similar. Having worked for a period with Talking Therapies as well as experience CBT as a client I have gained a good understanding of process and use CBT approaches in my role.

I have had the opportunity to develop a new team and service, namely as single point of access for psychological services and had responsibility for determining processes, employing, educating and supporting staff, setting protocols and structures and offering clinical and managerial leadership. In addition, I have been involved in the creation of an assertive outreach team within older people’s mental health to offer an enhanced service from day hospital to address identified unmet needs (via audit). I have also been fortunate to be involved at the start of new developments in care and to be part of that process, witnessing the successes and challenges to be overcome. This includes Older People Crisis Team, Advice & Referral Centre, my own team with Talking Therapies (SPA) and smaller projects within existing teams .

Every role in my latter experience has involved effective collaboration with stakeholders in the service offered and CPFT to include GPs, voluntary sector, commissioners and service users.

Skills and Abilities
I have excellent and proven interpersonal skills and ability to adapt to situations, language, environments and individual needs.
I can communicate in clear English both verbally and written form and have experience of working with translators to undertake assessments and interventions.
I have experience of making robust clinical decisions, not be afraid to pause to seek advice where necessary and to make crisis decisions where required through working in inpatient, community, urgent and crisis areas. I believe I have strong assessment skills and utilise available assessment tools to give an objective viewpoint in addition to my own decision making. I also believe in the strength of being able to seek advice where able to do so to support this process.

I believe strongly in accessing clinical supervision and use a reflective model to enhance my own practice. I have positive experience of working autonomously and within a team in varied areas of practice. Both have value but being able to use supervision within a team to develop skills and interventions is invaluable.

Mental healthcare has undergone significant periods of change throughout my career. I have welcomed and worked through these periods of change and have seen an improvement to the way those experiencing mental health issues are supported, educated an enabled as individuals. I believe in a recovery focused approach and embrace new developments to enhance patient care and voice. I am aware of the NHS modernisation plan and the focus on improving access and appropriate response in primary care providers. This of course will have an impact on service providers and the way we deliver care to support these contracts.

I believe in supporting diversity and equality. I have undertaken mandatory and additional training and having a disability myself I support positive engagement.

Training courses I have undertaken (and those in the future) are of great value as is applying that learning into practice serves to enhance my practice and educate others.

I am IT literate.
I currently use SystmOne.
I have experience of using PCMIS (IAPT database).
I am aware of EMIS requiring minimal training to use this system.
I use Word, Excel and most Microsoft applications. I access trust/NHS databases daily.
I am intuitive and receptive to new learning and would embrace the opportunity to learn and/or improve competency in required databases and systems.

I am a naturally organised person keeping lusts both digitally and handwritten. I maintain a paper and digital diary, also using SystmOne. I prefer to be on time and to be organised and prepared. I believe I am well presented for the client group I serve as well as working alongside or showcasing to others.

Knowledge and Understanding
I am very aware of the need for client confidentiality and ensure that all necessary paperwork and information capture is completed. I also have those discussions in relation to safeguarding and disclosures where there is potentially a clinical and risk need to share information despite refusal to share in the patient’s best interest or for the safety of others. I always ensure my patients and carers (where appropriate) are aware of this.

I worked alongside Mental Health Liaison Practitioners and Senior Mental Health Practitioners in the Primary Care Mental Health Service during my time with PWS SPA and witnessed the development of the service and the challenges it endured and resolved.
In SPA I worked closely with primary care colleagues to overcome blocks and lack of understanding to improve access and response in both services.
Within SPA I developed an easy access service for clients not only to access CBT but counselling and other services via a one referral system. This is something I completely support and have seen positive changes in the empowerment and enablement of individuals to care for their own needs at the right time. This in turn reduces the pressure on existing services and diverts care to the right areas at the right time for the right need.

I have belief in the value of research and have been involved in some research projects and undertaken audits of other teams and internally for caseload management, record keeping and productivity.
Application of research and audit is important to service improvement, patient experience, clinical effectiveness, service delivery ability and ultimately cost.
I believe the development of our skills and knowledge enables delivery of good quality care for all our stakeholders.

Physical Requirements
I have a full driving license with insurance including business.
I can travel between sites and have been able to access work locations.

I have a chronic disability (stoma) since 2003 managed without issue and no adjustments.
I am keen to continue professional development.

I would welcome a permanent position on a part time basis.
I have varied and extensive experience of working with people with mental health challenges from mild through to severe and I believe I can be an asset to this service.

I would prefer part time hours of between 15 and 22.5 hours per week but would be willing to do additional hours where able.
