Volunteering at an NHS hospital has allowed me to develop and demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting patients, families, and healthcare professionals in a compassionate and efficient manner. My natural empathy and excellent communication skills enable me to provide comfort and reassurance to patients who may be experiencing anxiety, loneliness, or uncertainty during their time in the hospital.
1. Supporting elderly or vulnerable patients by physically escorting them to their destinations when needed, providing directions to wards, outpatient clinics, diagnostic services, and consultation rooms to visitors.
2. Children/Patient Support in reading to patients or playing games to lift their spirits, particularly in paediatric or long-stay wards. Additionally, I acquired experience in the support for discharged patients—collecting discharge medications from the pharmacy, aid in wheelchair transportation.
3. Infection control, i adhered to strict infection control protocols such as hand hygiene and PPE requirements, i took sensibility in my role ensuring waiting areas are clean, tidy, and safe for patients and visitors and reporting hazards.
4. Administration, my administrative duties covered - restocking and organising medical supplies in storage areas, helping to set up patient meal trays, setting up information booths and handing out leaflets during health promotion events and helping with follow-up appointment bookings.
