An opportunity arose to work within the Quality department and I transferred internally to become a Quality Inspector. My role is to ensure that all metal is inspected properly, ensuring it meets specifications while upholding quality standards. Duties include:

  • To prioritise orders so that OTD (On Time Delivery) is met effectively assuring material meets customer specification
  • To ensure all orders are accurately weighed, recorded, labelled and certification raised as per required specifications
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is saved within the internal system
  • Escalate weight discrepancies and ensure variances are resolved
  • Raise non-compliance notices to help drive future success and orders to be completed
  • Support Inspection & Packing Team with development and delivery of the daily management cycle - identifying abnormal operating conditions risks and opportunities.

  • I initially had responsibility for the manufacture of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) based alloys for a variety of applications, utilising various cold and hot working processes to process PGM material into wire
  • I worked within the Wire stream as a Production Operative
  • I was promoted to Shift Supervisor in July 2018
  • My responsibilities as a Shift Supervisor include organising work daily for a team of eight employees (seven Operators & one Technician) over both departments (Fine Wire & Die Shop) within Noble Metals
  • I also manage the departmental budget on a monthly basis
  • I complete COSHH and Risk Assessments regularly as part of the PGMS group policy
  • I am responsible for employees' training and development and carry out regular personal performance reviews
  • My job involves a lot of problem solving within time restraints and deadlines
  • I have completed numerous training courses (see above) including 4CP and OEE training
  • Quality Control plays a major part in my role and because of this I work closely with the Technical Lead to resolve any customer queries and returns

  • I worked at Anstey Quarry in the main office at Anstey
  • I was initially employed as a sales agent with my main responsibility being to generate sales of materials that were produced by the quarry
  • I was on the road travelling to various sites to liaise with clients and maintain customer service
  • After a member of staff leaving abruptly, I then became more office based and conducted sales calls from the office
  • I also became the weighbridge operator
  • This entails visually checking materials on lorries from third party companies coming into the quarry, making sure they are categorised properly and then entering it onto the P and L weighbridge computerised system which then generates a ticket
  • These tickets are then processed by me and sent to the accountant
  • Other duties include handling customer queries, internal problem solving, credit control, dealing with staff queries and problems, arranging the transport schedule and transport manager cover
  • My time at the quarry has allowed me to use and practice with some of the heavy loading equipment such as loading shovels and the dump truck as well
