An integral part of my role is communication, be it at a 1:1 level, within the team as a nursing professional or when delivering training to staff and students on clinical duties, like medication, rapid tranquilisation and seclusion, care planning and risk management.
I work closely with practice educators and medics to improve the service and the patient experience, so being able to effectively communicate in a respectful and clear manner is fundamental to being able carry out my job.
My role is a leadership position, and I am very conscious of the way I conduct myself on the wards and the professional domain, I like to be a role model to my colleagues, and lead by example, never asking anyone to do something that I would not do myself. I take a lead approach in the learning and development of staff, and incorporating evidence based practice in the provision of my training. I have an active position in implementing and reviewing policies, and how these feed into clinical practice.
I promote a positive and inclusive culture, giving all staff equity and space to develop their skills at their own pace.
Proven ability to critically think, prioritise tasks and manage time in challenging situations when working in the clinical arena, ensuring that I have professional curiosity when dealing with unfamiliar incidents.
