Alongside studying for my GDL, I work part-time at a legal charity. I currently work within the Adults at Risk team, which provides representation for vulnerable clients, including victims of modern slavery, trafficking and torture:

  • Assisting solicitors in preparing case files, drafting correspondence, conducting client interviews and gathering supporting documentation for immigration bail cases;
  • Conducting comprehensive research on statutory provisions, Home Office policy and relevant case law;
  • Communicating regularly with clients in prisons and detention centres to keep them updated on their case progression and support their understanding of developing immigration policy;
  • Completing applications and evidence bundles, and drafting grounds for submission to courts and tribunals;
  • Participating in legal surgeries within detention centres to promote access to justice for asylum seekers and foreign nationals.
