I provide flexible support across NHS services, particularly I have picked shifts in the orthopaedic and fracture clinic based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. I assisted consultants during patient appointments, prepared and completed documentation for investigations such as X-rays, and supported smooth patient flow while providing person-centred care throughout their appointments. I am eager to pick further shifts in different wards and specialities.

Within this role at Harry Priestley House in Thorne I was able to be a bank support worker for 12 residents with a wide range of learning difficulties and I was able to meet all their needs and handle their challenging behaviours by tailoring care and support to the individuals and also empowering them in the community when pursuing hobbies and activities of their choice. I also became a shift leader administering medication and leading a team on different patterns of shifts which also required accurate documentation which I have been successfully completing.

I was able to work with a wide range of ages from children to adults, handling difficult customers, resulting in conflict resolution and ensuring safety of customers who were using the facilities. I ensured workplace cleanliness and worked in a team with managers, housekeepers etc. which I worked closely alongside. I provided excellent customer service skills and communicated well which enabled me to move onto wider roles such as working as a party host adapting to different traditions and events.

Clinical Placement History

Respiratory ward at Bassetlaw Hospital: 

Within this ward I was able to gain skills such as monitoring and recording vital signs, oxygen therapy management, assisting with nebuliser treatments and inhaler therapy, escalating respiratory deterioration, performing respiratory assessments, managing end of life patients and last offices, sputum sample collection etc. 

Orthopaedic ward:

Wound care, wound drain removal, assisting with preparing and administering intravenous antibiotics, administering enemas and suppositories, observing and documenting vital signs, providing subcutaneous injections, supporting patients from admission to discharges, experience in Theatres. 

Magnolia Lodge Neurorehabilitation Unit:

Performing neurological assessments and regular observations, supporting patients with their mobility, transfers and exercises. Assisting with personal care for patients with reduced mobility movements and supporting patients with cognitive impairments whilst learning around different impairments. 

Hepatitis and Cardiac community spoke placement:

Hepatitis team- I was able to observe and assist patients with the treatment of liver disease and hepatitis, Monitoring and supporting liver function and blood testing, Teaching patients how to modify their lifestyle and adhere to their treatment, Encouraging safe health practices and infection prevention, helping patients manage their conditions over the long term.

Cardiac Community team I was able to observe clinic days of patients being supported to have medication adjusted, learn around different cardiac conditions and how this is managed long term. I was able to perform ECGs and blood pressure checks on patients. 

Hazel Ward Intermediate Care and Rehabilitation centre:

Monitoring vital signs, supporting patients recovering from illnesses especially in their mobility and transfers. Empowering patients to regain their independence. 

Community Continence and Diabetic team:

I learnt around how to manage different types of diabetes and treatment options available. I observed nurses providing important information and support groups for patients on how to manage both their diabetes and continence issues. I was able to be confident in different catheter insertion and removal. I was able to learn how to promote healthy lifestyle changes for patients and complications patients may face. 

Unplanned Community Nursing Service Opal centre:

Monitoring vital signs and spotting indicators of patient decline, helping with quick community patient assessments, Assisting in the treatment of urgent medical conditions outside of hospitals.

Accident and Emergency:

This placement provided me with a range of skills and knowledge in a short space of 4 weeks. I was able to assist and take leadership for a team of patients and experience different aspects of care. I was able to help quickly assess patients and keep an eye on vital indicators, assisting in the treatment of people suffering from severe illnesses and injuries, Operating efficiently in a diverse emergency team that moves quickly and keeping up correct patient records and correspondence.
