• Medication administration oversight

I can safely administer medications to patients and determine if a medication is safe to give I also supervise nursing students administering medications and give them the correct amount of support they require depending on which year they are in

• Wound dressing proficiency

I can safely assess a wound and identify what wound care it requires, what dressings to use and any signs of infections

• Dementia care

I have experience working with dementia as I did my management (final placement) on a dementia ward for 3 months, I learnt different techniques to help keep patients calm and when to escalate care or any concerns I had

• Patient advocacy

As a newly qualified nurse I am a big believer in speaking up for patients, particularly vulnerable patient who can't advocate for themselves because of illness or mental impairment

• Mobility assistance

I assist patients in mobilising within their limits, and assess whether they require any physiotherapy due to illness or physical restraints

• Active listening

I ensure I use active listening when interacting with patients, patient's family members and friends I understand how scared they must be due to their relative being in hospital Patient family members can also be crucial in noticing differences in the patients condition as the family knows them better than anyone and might pick up something us as healthcare professionals might miss
