Deputy Headteacher of Millpool Campus

City of Birmingham School
Birmingham, West Midlands
09.2022 - 08.2024
  • My role is pivotal to the smooth running and ongoing development of the campus, with a strategic focus that ranges from day to day oversight to supporting curriculum development and deputising for the Headteacher on occasions as this is a challenging, yet rewarding role.
  • I have raised attainment for KS4 BTEC Enterprise where all students are attaining a Grade 9-4 equivalent in GCSE. I have promoted a curiosity and a love of learning for the subject to entice pupils to take special interest in my subject and see its value. This has been done through sharing my expertise and widening their experiences through educational visits.
  • I have taken on further strategic whole school responsibility to deliver on-going weekly Teaching and Learning Briefings (T&LB) in order to develop the teaching and learning skills of all teachers in the school through a programme of research. Furthermore, this is followed by ensuring that I do regular Climate for Learning (C4L) walks to assess if teachers are embedding research informed strategies into their classroom. The impact of this is that where colleagues have embedded good teaching and learning practices into their classroom, I have shared good practices during the briefing. On the other hand, if teachers are not adhering to research informed strategies, I speak to the individual and formulate a solution to the problem. I believe it is important to monitor the Quality of Education through the curriculum and peer reviews.

Head of Faculty (Computer Science, Media, Business and ICT)

Q3 Academy Tipton
Tipton
04.2019 - 08.2022
  • In terms of academic results in 2022, my team had raised attainment for Computer Science to 80% 9-4 equivalent which is an improvement than the previous year of 65% 9-4 equivalent.
  • For BTEC ICT students, my team managed to raise attainment to 75% 9-4 equivalent which is an increase compared to 70% 9-4 equivalent last year.
  • In addition, we maintained our attainment for Level 3 BTEC Media Studies to 100% 9-4 equivalent which is equivalent to the previous year.
  • In the last four years, I have been taking a whole school lead on ensuring that all curriculum areas are structured and sequenced accordingly. By implementing a strategy called “Curriculum Overview Plans” (COPs) and Curriculum Cover Sheets (CCSs), it has helped Middle Leaders and colleagues to follow the sequencing of the curriculum cohesively.
  • In 2021, I have taken a huge lead on this and developed a strategy called “Tiered Vocabulary Booklets” which allows all subject areas to categorise keywords in terms of the level of difficulty and then put into a tiered system. The impact of this strategy is that it allows students to familiarise themselves with key terminology needed to access different aspects of the curriculum.
  • In 2022, I have been tackling the issues surround inaccuracies with assessment grades awarded in all curriculum areas to ensure that there is a level of consistency across the school, when grades are awarded after an assessment. I have been the driving force for developing a strategy called “Progress Maps” and “Progress Trackers” to enable Middle Leaders and colleagues to track the progress of students after every assessment as well as defining accurately what grades are awarded to each student.

Computer Science Teacher

Kings Heath Boys School
Birmingham
04.2017 - 04.2019
  • Hugely involved in raising attainment in 2018 for KS4 Computer Science to 80% (A
  • -C) up from 30% (2017), which is a huge milestone as the previous year, due to staffing inconsistencies it had impacted negatively on pupil outcomes.
  • My subject specialism was further developed as I enhanced my subject knowledge to learn Business Studies and Media so that I can teach both of these subjects confidently to a KS4 cohort.
  • To improve outcomes for Year 11 pupils with SEN needs, I have delivered masterclasses and developed accessible learning materials which helped their level of understanding to aid them for their exams.
  • In the Computing department, I have taken further responsibility to produce, manage and monitor homework and assessments for KS3 and KS4 students to ensure that student progress is tracked effectively, and appropriate interventions are made where students are underachieving.
