Also behavioural support strategies training in order to help with service users who were showing challenging behaviour. I worked in the office taking on the responsibility of producing rotas to a team of 40 staff. Ensuring all service users have all support required. I had frequent communication with parents, service users, managers and social work. We had 4 houses which required support 24/7. I was on shift to support service users which would involve taking them shopping; helping with finances/banking; house work; attending a day centre or an activity. Helping and encouraging independence. We supported people with mild learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, downs syndrome, angelman syndrome. Many showed challenging behaviour, in which we received training on how to manage each individual effectively to prevent themselves, people around getting hurt. Working within a team of 40 staff members I had the responsibility of communicating effectively with colleagues, families and clients.Helped with organising support plans / case reviews as required for individual people we supported with all relevant stakeholders, ensuring effective handovers between staff, and maintaining records, case files. I stepped up to team manager for a year to help cover maternity leave, which was a great experience for me, Helped with interviews, which was a great opportunity.
Conducted regular performance reviews with objectives to improve team skills.
The main part of my job consisted of working on a one to one basis with a Downs Syndrome child and a child who had ADHD. I supported them within the classroom to help with work and I supported them while out in the play ground. I also worked with other groups of children, supporting their learning (aged 5-11 year olds). I assisted teachers with curricular support for targets for each child. -Helping to develop programs of learning activities and adapting appropriate materials. -motivating and encouraging pupils -assisting with marking and correcting work -attending meetings and reviews -helping with school events, trips and activities I really enjoyed working within the school and helping to support children of all ages. I felt I was wanting to have a chance at working with and supporting young people and adults with various needs.
