Summary

I am a qualified psychoanalytic psychotherapist registered with the BPC and have years of post and pre qualification experience. I feel passionate about the NHS and the provision of psychoanalytically informed talking therapies to patients who could not afford to take up private therapy.

I know I would learn a lot and continue my development as a therapist through a placement at SLAM which is a centre of excellence for the sort of work I am committed to.

Skills

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling I am committed to a psychoanalytic approach to working with patients and I would describe such an approach as involving the centrality of the frame in maintaining boundaries and safety for the patient and as a means of understanding unconscious communication between patient and therapist in the crucible of the transference and the countertransference Psychoanalytic thought has so many layers including an awareness of the development of the mind over time and the elements that can stall or de rail that development including trauma, and the ongoing conflict between destructive and creative parts of the personality
  • I have worked with self harm and am aware of how anxiety provoking such presentations are Good supervision and the containment it provides for the therapist is essential to maintain an open reflective attitude rather then a rush to action, whilst being mindful of the risks a patient might present - to themselves and to the work 'Thinking under fire,' is of course Bion's resonant phrase and the ongoing development of such a possibility is important to me
