Placements completed:

  • FEAU- Provided specialised care for 6 consecutive weeks to frail and elderly patients were I learnt how to take accurate observations, maintained patients personal hygiene and completed fall risk assessments. This fast-paced environment enabled my clinical decision making skills to develop rapidly. This is were I learnt the basics including monitoring blood glucose levels, taking observations, admitting patients and providing care needs ensuring patients ADL's were maintained such as washing patients and brushing teeth.
  • 126-Neurology- During this placement I gained knowledge surrounding neurological conditions such as; stroke, epilepsy and brain injuries. I thoroughly enjoyed expanding my knowledge around these conditions and the treatment I would provide. Understanding the importance of neurological observations and different kinds of seizures and how they present.
  • AMU County Hospital- Further developed my knowledge and skills by assisting patients under general medicine. Looked after patients with acute illness's, collaborating with the MDT around their treatment.
  • 111-speciailised surgery- Includes ENT, Plastic surgery, Maxillofacial, Breast surgery and Ophthalmology. Here I demonstrated patient centred care in a range of patients experiencing complex specialised surgical intervention. Showed skills including tracheostomy care, RIGs and PEGs. Developed skills in the prevention/reduction of hospital admissions by ensuring patients had left hospital safely with the right support.
  • Furlong medical centre - A new side to nursing were I worked closely with a respiratory nurse and diabetes nurse. Providing care to a tight knit community was a highlight of this job as I enjoy getting to know patients personally and the difference in hospital and general practice care. Completed spirometry testing and providing information on asthma and the physical and psychological aspects involved when being a GP nurse.
  • 122-Diabetes and endocrinology- Strengthened my time management skills by looking after a bay of patients and using sliding scales to manage glucose/ketone levels.
  • SAU- Applied clinical knowledge to care setting. Recognised deterioration and identified care needs early. Undertook initial patient assessments and prioritised care appropriately. Prioritised patients based on clinical urgency in fast-paced environments. Escalated a concerns promptly to medical staff. Developed competence in venepuncture, peripheral cannulation, catheterisation and bladder scans.
  • 128-Respiratory- Coordinated and delivered holistic care for respiratory patients from admission to discharge, demonstrating strong prioritisation, clinical judgment, and multidisciplinary teamwork. Delivered oxygen therapy management and supported individuals with cystic fibrosis.
