Workshop Assistant Position

Summary

Dear ThreeFourFive,

I have been following your kitchens since 2023, and love the aesthetic and materials you use to create striking designs.

Working on renovating some properties over the last 5 years has reignited my design and engineering passions after a long time working in the music sector, and I'm keen for a new challenge with more hands-on work. I've always been interested computer-aided design and ergonomics, and have a Masters degree in the subject from way-back-when before I ended up taking a curve-ball of a career path as a DJ & electronic music producer. Outside of music my other hobbies including fixing up and maintaining older cars as well as working on our long-term family house restoration project. I'm also the extended-family go-to man when anything is broken and needs repairs. I have designed and fitted 2 Ikea kitchens in the last couple of years so am aware of the basics of design & fitting. I'm sure you'll get far more traditionally qualified applicants for the position but I think I would be able to fit in and learn on my feet - I'm sociable as well as a hard worker.

All the very best

Work History

Disc Jockey

Self-employed
01.2003 - Current

I have been Djing as a professional artist for a very long time, picking up my first paid gigs in the early 2000s. Things picked up circa 2008 and Djing has been my primary occupation from then until now. I have played sets across the world, from countries like Poland & Lithuania to the East, all the way to the USA & Brazil Westwards. The bulk of my career has been based back in the UK though, where I've played many famous venues throughout the years. My musical style is eclectic, whilst being rooted in deep house and disco sounds.

Property Developer

Self-employed
09.2020 - 05.2021

During COVID I was unable to work and had to look at other sources of income. I was able to borrow money to purchase a small flat in Govanhill for renovation. Working alone and learning as I went I managed to transform a 1-bed flat with an odd corner floorplan and an outdated central heating system into something much more useful with a office/study room in addition to ripping out and starting again with the kitchen & bathroom. Keeping a close eye design and ergonomics I was very happy with the result (particularly in the kitchen) and managed to make enough money to keep going until things started to get back to normal after COVID.

Music Producer

Self-employed
01.2007 - 08.2020

As a further development from Djing I learnt the basic processes of music production from fellow peers in the late 2000s, learning how to use specialist software programs to control electronic instruments, write music etc. The main program I now use is Ableton Live, a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) which incorporates many features previously requiring multiple programs running in tandem. I have built up a large discography of original material including over 50 official remixes of other artists. My most-played song currently has over 3 million streams on Spotify. This part of my career culminated in my debut album being released in 2018. Since then I have concentrated on making special private versions of songs for my Dj sets which are exclusive to me.

Bar Owner / Music Programmer / DJ

Distill Bar
08.2006 - 01.2017

I worked alongside a group of friends opening and running a successful bar in Glasgow, doing everything from regular bar work, accounting, refitting, maintenance and decoration in addition to picking and scheduling music and live entertainment as well as Djing.

Record Store Manager - Carbon Music

Carbon Music
03.2003 - 08.2006

Whilst still at university I managed to get a part-time job at my favourite record store at the time selling records and CDs to DJs, business owners and regular customers. When I graduated from Uni a full-time position became available and I moved straight into that the week after I finished my course. After another couple of years I eventually became store manager. This set me off on my future path of music and Djing as opposed to engineering which was originally my career plan.
