Alisha Rooney

• I am a BSc Psychology graduate with a strong academic and practical foundation in research and applied psychology, graduating with a first class degree with honours.
• I have developed experience as both a paid and voluntary Research Assistant, where I have gained skills in data collection, analysis, and research processes, alongside a strong understanding of ethical and evidence-based practice.
• I have experience working with children and vulnerable young people, including a role as a peer mentor providing support to individuals facing personal and educational challenges.
• I have experience in neuropsychology and brain injury rehabilitation, which has developed my understanding of cognitive functioning and recovery.
• Alongside my academic achievements, I am part of a competitive mentoring scheme with Assistant Psychologists, where I am gaining insight into clinical pathways and the practical realities of psychological services.
• I am particularly interested in Research Assistant, Assistant Psychologist, and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner roles where I can apply my research skills and develop further clinical experience. I am especially motivated by opportunities that combine research, data analysis, and direct work with individuals.
• I am a motivated and reflective individual with a strong commitment to developing a career in psychology. I am particularly interested in opportunities that allow me to contribute to meaningful research and evidence-based psychological practice, and I am always keen to connect with professionals working in research and mental health services.

Peer Mentor (York City Council)

• As a peer mentor, my main role was to support a vulnerable young person on a one-to-one basis. This involved exploring and developing new leisure-time activities and acting as an independent and continual emotional and practical support system for them. I adopted new skills and furthered my resilience, patience, commitment and compassion.

Student Volunteer

• I was involved in an event showcasing psychology experiments and information for children, to attract families and children to come to campus in future to take part in research. During this, I mainly took part in running a section on the brain and neuropsychology. I used a brain model to explain to the children about the different areas, sections and functions of their brain!.
