Work history

Legal Consultant (Financial Derivatives)

Document Risk Solutions
Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne
2020.06 - Current
  • Negotiate 'BAU' financial derivatives trading documentation (ISDAs, GMRAs, collateral arrangements) for a leading British investment bank.
  • Since February 2023, I've been leading a project to negotiate collateral terms/'collateral schedules' for a leading British investment bank's regulatory 'Initial Margin' obligations with its trading counter-parties.
  • Between around June 2020 and April 2022, I was part of, and then led, a leading British investment bank's project to amend its derivatives trading documentation to remove references to phased-out interest rates ('IBORS') and to update them to new replacement rates ('Risk-free rates').
  • Between early 2021 and late 2022, I managed one of a leading British investment bank's 'prime brokerage' documentation inboxes & I led a small team of paralegals that negotiated much of the documentation that came into that inbox.
  • I lead an internal project to produce advice on how to read and understand industry legal opinions (so-called 'netting' and 'collateral' enforceability opinions).
  • I have also been responsible for writing and maintaining an internal 'playbook' on one of the main financial derivatives-trading documents called the '2016 ISDA Credit Support Annex for Variation Margin'.

Graduate Business Development Executive

Document Risk Solutions
Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle upon Tyne
2019.12 - 2020.06
  • Helped develop the sales strategy and materials for an internal new compliance software that's focused on the U.K's Financial Conduct Authority's ('FCA') 'Senior Managers and Certification Regime' ('SMCR'). I initially did much sales research.
  • My role evolved from the traditional business development sales role to more of a regulatory and legal one. I did much research on the SMCR and the FCA's rules in general, which was used to help develop the software and the marketing materials for it.
  • My most important contribution was writing much of the 'user manual' for the software. I also wrote some blog posts for the software's sales website.
  • Carried out quality assurance testing to identify bugs in software builds.
