Summary

I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2015, achieving a Bachelor of Arts. I then completed my PGCE in Cardiff Metropolitan in 2023/2024. I am currently completing my NQT year in a Year 5 class at St Illtyd Primary School, and I have an up-to-date DBS and EWC registration. Before starting my PGCE, I was a Learning Support Assistant for over a year, where I had regular performance management progress meetings. The job role has given me recent training on the current curriculum, Donaldson’s recommendations, and the LNF and DCF. I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to put these into operation during my two placements and NQT year, which have varied from early years to PS3 and included an advanced-thinking school. I have attended benchmarking, child protection training, safeguarding, E-safety, child-strategy meetings, Mathletics, WellComm, body image, growth mindset, EAL, seesaw, meta-cognition and collaboration training sessions. As well as completing a Prevent training course, an ALN conference day and a cross-phase transition project from Primary to Secondary. I am also completing a Welsh language course with Dysgu Cymraeg as I’m very passionate about the Welsh language. I want to show my initiative in improving my practice and professional development in this area. One of the learners in my second placement had a hearing impairment, so I participated in a BSL online course to ensure she got the best care and the same opportunities as her classmates. In my current Year 5 class, I have many ALN, ranging from VI, EAL, SpLD, CL, SeMH and physical/medical needs. I have ensured that my professional development has aligned with these barriers to ensure that all of the class's learners receive an inclusive curriculum. For example, I watched an educational series on Charcot-Marie Tooth Disease and how to manage it within schools.

Work history

Class Teacher

St Illtyd Primary School
Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan
09.2023 - Current

I have taught all AOLEs across the new Welsh Curriculum. Responsibilities included implementing and planning stage-appropriate activities (including ALN), maintaining safety in the learning environment, monitoring progression, and helping to develop their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. I am also the AOLE lead for Expressive Arts and have frequently allocated time to monitor the skills coverage, recognise the gaps, and then advise on the next steps. As this is my NQT year, I have found taking this leadership role beneficial, as Expressive Arts is a passion of mine.

Delivered food and beverages to customers’ tables and exceeded in building a rapport with our customers and fellow team members. It helped me develop my communication skills In a different environment than being an entertainer.

Trainee Barber

04.2019 - 09.2019

I trained as a barber, observing the professional barbers, cleaning the shop, cleaning equipment, and setting up equipment such as blades, shaving equipment and hot towels. Also, customer service, cash handling and till experience. As well as producing free haircuts for family and friends.

Dancer/Entertainer

This fantastic experience helped me grow in all aspects. From communication skills to confidence in presenting, hosting and dancing on a big stage. As well as adult and children’s entertainment, such as fun and games, bingo, production shows and party dances. Also, character work and daytime activities, including quizzes, art, science experiments, football, dancing and children’s entertainment under 6. Skills

I have learnt various ways to inspire and motivate learners in the classroom, including different stimuli to interest the pupils I have used pupil voice effectively in nursery and in PS3 This gave me an insight into what the pupils wanted to learn about the specific topic It allowed me to use a range of ways to motivate and inspire all learners regardless of abilities and other interests I can make learning accessible for all learners, including ALN I understand cynefin and creating a classroom culture of inclusivity, feeling safe and expression, while looking at every learner holistically and realising that one size doesn’t fit all I chose to attend an extra-curricular club on placement focusing on wellbeing aimed at FP and KS1; this experience was incredible and influenced my first assignment During this assignment, I decided to focus on well-being, as this is a passion of mine As part of this assignment, I completed a survey using a questionnaire for every learner, asking if they felt happier working independently or collaboratively This was asked in child-friendly language, and the results of this survey showed that the learners overwhelmingly favoured collaborative and cooperative working Part of my assignment was to offer recommendations, and I suggested integrating more collaborative working, especially in outdoor learning and using technology I also suggested doing a follow-up questionnaire in a few months, and an extra-curricular club focused on well-being for KS2, as I have been researching how important collaborative working is for well-being during the transition phase before secondary school This assignment allowed me to learn and experience new ways of ensuring positive well-being for staff and learners I have taken this evidence and included it into my practice in my current Year 5 class, including collaboration frequently, where recently they have created their own documentary After attending a charity event and discussing my current studies, I have also established links with Cerebral Palsy Cymru I am a good problem solver and can resolve issues efficiently by thinking on my feet within the classroom environment I can delegate effectively, having many experiences of using support staff to ensure the best learning, skills, and experience outcomes for all learners I have also had the experience of planning effectively for support staff to give all learners the greatest learning opportunities possible This has ranged from class Learning Support Assistants to 1:1’s In my current school, we have Nurture, and I am in daily close communication with the two LSAs who run Nurture I have taking part in parents evening and have first-hand experience of communicating with parents/carers daily I am very enthusiastic about teaching and building relationships with learners and their families I love working as part of a team and have developed excellent working relationships in all the schools I have attended In university, I attended weekly Welsh lessons, where I learnt the benefits of teaching children of all ages the Welsh language, as well as a Dysgu Cymraeg weekly course I am excited to bring knowledge of my own personal interests to your school I would love to lead an extra-curricular activity, having been a professional dancer, a filmmaker, a wild swimmer, a skateboarder, and a children’s entertainer I have led lunchtime dance classes at my current school, and they have been successful I was pleasantly surprised by the number of boys attending
