Aleksandra Szmigielska

During my time working at an SEN primary
school, I provided classroom support by
assisting children with their work, offering
one-to-one help, and encouraging active
participation in lessons. I listened to students
read, guided them through corrections, and
supported their overall learning progress.
Outside the classroom, I supervised pupils
during break and lunch times to ensure their
safety and wellbeing, and during meals, I
encouraged positive behaviour and healthy
eating habits. I also assisted with daily
routines such as taking students to
the bathroom whilst ensuring their
hygiene. This role strengthened my
communication, patience, and teamwork
skills, while giving me valuable experience in
supporting children with diverse learning and
behavioural needs.

• During my two week work experience at a primary school, I supported teachers in the classroom and helped supervise and engage with students during lessons and activities. This experience helped me develop strong communication and patience, as I worked closely with young children and adapted to their individual needs. I assisted with preparing materials, supported small group tasks, and helped maintain a positive and structured classroom environment. The role also improved my organisation, responsibility and ability to follow instructions in a professional setting.

• During my time volunteering at the Salvation Army Charity Shop, I developed a range of valuable skills and gained hands-on experience in a retail environment. I supported the team with sorting and organising donations, maintaining a clean and welcoming store, and assisting customers with a friendly and helpful attitude. Working alongside other volunteers improved my teamwork, time management, and communication skills and gave me a strong understanding of how to contribute effectively in a busy retail setting.
