Work history

Veterinarian

Abbey Vets
Arbroath, Angus
08.2024 - Current

My responsibilities included performing consults ranging from routine vaccinations and preventative healthcare, to more urgent cases and emergencies.

I also performed frequent diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures including X-rays/Ultrasounds, blood work, neutering of cats and dogs, mass removals and dental procedures.

I work both with more experienced vets for complicated cases(for example, helping to manage GDV/volvulus with a recent case) and leading a team of nurses by myself(a recent example would be dealing with an acute penetrating wound in a young Cocker Spaniel).

Education

Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery - Veterinary Medicine

Skills

  • Communication/People skills- I have received consistently positive feedback from clients and colleagues about my friendly and positive demeanour in consults I feel that staying calm and reassuring is a very valuable skill to possess in emergency medicine, and getting along with a team keeps everything working efficiently
  • Initiative- Having frequently been on sole charge for the past year, I am comfortable with relying on my own skills and leading a team in high-pressure situations However, I also feel that I have a good understanding of my limitations and when to ask for help when necessary
  • Confidence with surgery- I have been performing multiple surgeries a week, most commonly cat spays(some bitch spays) but also other procedures such as wound closure and dental surgery
