For over two years I have volunteered at my local Brownie Unit. Through this I have shown commitment and an ability to work collaboratively with other adults. I'm actively involved in the planning, organising and delivery of a variety of activities for the younger children. I have led quiz nights and spoken at events held within the church, which has had a positive impact on my own confidence and self-belief.
Through my participation in Girl Guides, which I have been attending since I was 4 years old, I have actively participated in residential weekends, where I have embraced the opportunity to have a go at activities like horse riding, canoeing, archery, rifle shooting and teamwork activities. I have used each of these opportunities to build my own confidence and go out with my comfort zone. To help subsidise the cost of such activities, I have led the planning, organising and running of fundraising activities.
My experience volunteering within a primary school has allowed the opportunity for me to work with a range of children. This has enabled me to develop my awareness of how to communicate and interact with children of various ages.
Through my weekend job I have developed my independence in terms of timekeeping, engaging with a wide range of the public, using my initiative, completing set tasks and fitting into a work environment. I can reassure people in a friendly manner, ensuring their needs are being met.
Through completing the Social Services and Healthcare Foundation Apprenticeship at South Lanarkshire College, I have developed my knowledge and skills in a variety of Healthcare topics while preparing and undertaking placements in a hospital and care home.
