Volunteering Experience – Bless Community Support (2020–Present)

I volunteer three days a week with Bless Community Support, supporting several groups that work with older adults and individuals facing a range of challenges. My role involves creating a welcoming, safe environment and offering practical and emotional support both in group settings and on a one‑to‑one basis.

  • Memory Friendship Group (approx. 30 members):
Support individuals living with Dementia or Alzheimer’s, helping them engage in activities, maintain confidence, and feel connected. I work with small groups as well as 1:1, adapting communication and support to each person’s needs.
  • Stitch In Time (approx. 45 attendees):
Assist adults experiencing mental health difficulties, loneliness, or low self‑confidence. I help facilitate activities, encourage participation, and build positive relationships that support wellbeing.
  • Afternoon Tea & Quiz (approx. 50 attendees, all 50+):
Contribute to running a busy social group focused on reducing isolation. My role includes welcoming attendees, supporting those who need extra help, and ensuring everyone feels included.

Through this work I’ve developed strong interpersonal skills, patience, and a deep understanding of how to support vulnerable adults with dignity and compassion. While my background in education has given me a solid foundation in communication and behaviour support, the last four years with Bless have strengthened my ability to work in a care‑focused environment. These experiences transfer directly into a Care Assistant role, particularly in areas such as person‑centred support, safeguarding awareness, and building trust with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.
