I am currently a History student in my second year at University. I have gained significant experience in teaching which has helped me develop my communication skills with both children and young adults. Through consistent interaction with students I have taken on the responsibility of advising and guiding students on how to improve their performance, I liaise closely with parents, notifying them of their child's progress. This has forced me to sharpen my teaching abilities, communication skills, time management and working under pressure.
- By starting my own online tuition class I have had to be self disciplined and exceptionally organised with scheduling student timetables.
- I improved my skills in Excel as I developed daily feedback reports for parents to track their child's progress.
- I had to learn how to keep students engaged in class, diversifying my approach with different age groups.
- My time management improved, since I have students from Asia, America and the UK, I need to keep track of different time zones.
- I assisted the head boxing coach in lesson planning and demonstrations.
- I would also lead sessions, focussing on specific techniques and drills that train reaction speed.
- Despite the slight language barrier, I was able to communicate boxing drills effectively.
- Planning a 90 minute session for 20 young children developed my lesson planning skills.
- I had to keep players engaged and build their skills individually and as a team player.
- I gained valuable experience working alongside a qualified coach.
- I developed leadership skills working with a large group of children. guiding them through basketball drills and games.
I am a member of the Travelteer volunteering programme. I plan on volunteering in Morocco in the Atlas mountains for up to a month during the summer holiday. I will assist in English lessons, sport coaching sessions, infrastructure projects and agriculture.
Last summer I volunteered for a local charity in Egypt, helping to distribute basic food necessities to poor regions of Cairo. I helped distribute meat to families in need and traveled to the different regions to make sure the supplies were delivered. I worked closely with the local charity team, interacting with people from different cultures.
