I joined MJ Electrical as an Electrical apprentice, mainly installing and wiring CCTV systems. They quickly expanded and became a multi trade company working with HMO's, social/emergency housing, rental properties and many more. During my time at MJ I have worked with joiners ripping out and installing fire doors, ripping out and repairing floors as well as any general repair jobs. For the past year i have focused on clean and clear jobs, needle sweeps and weekly deep cleans. Some of the properties I clean belong to ex addicts or recently released convicts and i come across some extremely dirty and dangerous jobs. I removed hazardous waste, including needles and bodily fluids, while ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment.
I joined the Ruskin at the beginning of their building project which converted the two joining hotels into one new larger hotel. At the beginning there was only three of us but after a few weeks we became a solid team of ten. Tasks included a full ripout of all existing rooms, stud walls, electrics and plumbing. We created a lift shaft, built new walls and insulated them with rockwool as well as taking in all deliveries including, steel beams, plaster boards, large quantities of timber and many other building materials.
After the closure of the building site in Salford, my dad encouraged me to find other work, whether it be temporary or permanent.
At B&Q I worked in the garden centre. My duties included stock rotation, keeping our outdoor section clean and tidy, receiving and putting away deliveries, building displays, processing orders and helping customers by giving them helpful insight on our products. At the beginning of my employment, i started a notebook with information on each product we sold, this helped me give shoppers helpful advice.
After a few months of unemployment, I had the opportunity to do a B2W course which upon completion, I was put forward for my CSCS test. After passing the test, i earnt my CSCS Green Card which would allow me to work on building sites. I then went onto become an electrical apprentice for my dad. I got to work on high-rise apartments in Salford, doing second fix jobs such as wiring sockets, switches, fire and smoke alarms and Ethernet ports. I worked on both commercial and domestic jobs.
Whilst working at the Winter Gardens, I learnt how to work efficiently on my own after being required to run some of the smaller bars around the venue during many different shows. I did this for music festivals, dance festivals, Darts tournaments and many other shows. I would ensure there were plenty of cups stocked up, promptly notify cellar staff when a barrel needed changing, keep all spirits and mixers topped up and ensure queues went down quickly whilst also providing quality service. Some of the shows I had the pleasure of working attracted all walks of life, giving me the oppurtunity to talk to and get to know all sorts of different people from different backgrounds.
Whilst working in the gift shop at Marton Mere holiday park, my duties included restocking shelves and creating displays, selling bingo tickets and balloons on the showroom floor, receiving and sorting deliveries and providing a pleasant shopping experience. During opening times, the shop was always busy, therefore myself and the team were always ontop of keeping the shop tidy and restocked.
During my time at the Yeadon Way bar & restaurant, i prepared and served desserts whilst also keeping on top of stock, ensuring everything was in date and of high standard. I worked in a busy, high pressure environment whilst always producing top quality service. Whilst being my first job at 16, this gave me a good understanding of the importance of time management and high-quality customer service.
