I have a background in Support Work with adults with learning disabilities with 7 years experience as a Support Worker. I set up my own business 12 years ago, which I still run but I have also successfully perform various voluntary roles in my local community alongside it for the last 2 years. I volunteer with the Kidlington Good Neighbour Scheme as a befriender visiting people with reduced mobility and who often live on their own. I also deliver library books to people wth mobility issues with the Home Library Service. I also volunteer with the Towpath Taskforce, maintaining our pathways and folliage along it in Kidlington at Stratfield Brake. I also volunteer at the Kidlington Sue Ryder shop hanging clothes and putting out stock onto the shop floor.
I set up Thomson Cleaning in 2013, initially as a self-employed cleaner in Oxford for 1.5 years, before taking on slef-employed cleaners and becoming the organiser and administrator for the business. I set up trial cleans for new customers, email documents to documents, I arrange sick cover and holiday cover, handle all phone calls and emails from new and existing customers, vet the cleaners, do the accounts, invoicing and advertisements. I created and maintain the company website. Working alongside a developer, we created customised operating systems specifically designed for how the business works. After working full-time in the business for 12 years, I now choose to do voluntary roles alongside it, which I very much enjoy and have done so for the last 2 years.
In this role I provided perosn-centred support to adults with learning disabilities to empower them to do daily living tasks and activities and to live the lives they choose with dignity and independence. I assisted people with their morning, afternoon and evening routines, showering and dressing, supported meal preparation and shopping, travel with them to visit their friends, social groups and clubs, if the person required support to do that. I supported service users to take any medication, maintained records and performed all admin as required of the role.
Certificated in First Aid and have done Food Hygiene, Safeguarding, Risk Assessment training etc. many times over the years so I am familiar with these concepts and their application in the workplace.
Have volunteered in South Africa in an HIV/ AIDS hospice for 1 month after my Undergraduate degree as well as volunteering in Bangalore, India in a deaf school for 3 months in my twenties.
I'm a keen walker, am part of the Ramblers and have walked various long-distance walking paths such as the West Highland Way, The Oxfordshire Way, The Cotswold Way, The Isle of Wight and Jersey coast paths to name a few. I'm a keen swimmer and swim every weekday morning. I like to cook and try new recipes.
