I have worked in different sectors however these have all provided vital skills: teamwork, flexibility, productivity, excellent communication skills, planning and liaising, customer relation skills, determination and ambition to work hard. I have seen first hand that when you apply yourself to your job, you see excellent results.
I have cared for students with different learning levels and backgrounds. Always ready to step in and assist and give a positive impact on their learning experience. Working in a secondary school, no two days are the same, each day brings a new set of challenges and this environment means its absolutely vital to adapt.
Alongside this working in a busy London hairdressing salon has meant that I have met with people from a variety of backgrounds, liaising with them to ensure they have the best experience, consulting with fellow colleagues to ensure the client gets exactly what they want. I also regularly took phone calls, made appointments, answered query's, all while keeping that busy environment clean, fully stocked and welcoming.
Becoming a HLTA gave me opportunity to really learn new skills that provide a lot of experience and value. Teamwork is a key factor in this due to working closely alongside teachers of all subjects to arrange lessons, classroom plans and to using software to log behavioural reports. Some other duties and responsibilities include:
- preparing classrooms for lessons and setting up slideshows and videos for students
- teaching classes unassisted and covering lessons in the circumstance of sick/maternity leave
- planning and delivery lessons and enrichment activities for students of all ages, ranging from 11-18
- supervising student trips
- liaising with teachers to provide the best education to students
- keeping in regular professional contact with parents to ensure the students time at school and at home is running smoothly
- arranging parent/teacher meetings, including meetings with social workers
- morning, lunch and evening duty
Alongside this I was also trained in the SEND department. This means I specialise in working with children who have extra educational needs, learning difficulties and EHCP students.
- Supported classroom activities, tutoring, and reviewing work.
- Tutored struggling students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
- Handled class records for attendance, assignment grades and course participation scores.
- Maintained laboratory safety by demonstrating equipment and techniques.
- Taught courses under guidance of senior instructors.
