during lockdown, I decided to get involved with the go4 community enterprise project in colchester where my son was volunteering in their cafe.
they needed help with their foodbank sorting and delivery during lockdown, so a few times a week, I would help with collecting food from supermarkets and then sorting and dividing it up, then delivering this food to people in need in the community in my car.
After lockdown, I volunteered in their cafe on the rec at old health recreation ground. This involved serving customers, but also helping support some of their other volunteers who had learning difficulties.
I have many personal skills and attributes that I think would make me a good choice for this job
I have a very disability positive attitude I have a lot of integrity and have always advocated for my clients
I love to help empower people to live positive enjoyable lives and to find out what their barriers are and what makes them tick
I am good at noticing the little things, and i like to think outside the box with strategies to help them reach their goals and targets
I believe in seeing the best in people and unconditional positive regard
I have lived experience of disability My three children who are now adults, have autism, adhd, ehlos danlos syndrome as do I, and I have worked extremely hard to find strategies for the education system, and helping getting them into the workplace, attending meetings, liaising with professionals and maintaining positive relationships
In my previous job at bluebird care, I was getting involved in helping to deliver the Oliver Magowan mandatory training on learning disabilities and autism
I love helping and empowering people to become more independent
I love animals and the outdoors I have several rescue dogs and cats, and I have helped transport birds between rescue facilities
I have some experience working on a therapy farm in great dunmow with a client (rainbow rural)
I do have some gaps in my employment history, due to me taking time to be a stay at home parent and raise my family They all have some degree of additional needs, including attending SEN school, or periods of school refusal which meant that a parent at home to attend meetings or emergencies was important
During this time, I have spent time trying to improve my own education, doing open university courses, finally gaining my GCSE maths as an adult, and volunteering I volunteered as a samaritan and at a community enterprise cafe
