My healthcare journey has been driven by a strong passion for caring for the elderly and vulnerable. From the age of 16, I have gained extensive experience across care homes, domiciliary care, and community settings, alongside completing an HNC in Healthcare Practice. These experiences have strengthened my desire to pursue a career in nursing and make a positive difference in people's lives.
I began my career as a Food Service Assistant in a care home, where building relationships with residents inspired me to take on a more hands-on caring role. This led to working as a domiciliary care worker, providing personal care and companionship in clients' homes, followed by a Level 2 Care Worker role in a residential care home. After 18 months, I progressed to a Level 3 Carer, taking on responsibilities including medication administration, shift leadership, and care planning. These roles developed my clinical skills, leadership, and communication.
Supporting individuals with dementia has been a key focus throughout my career. I enhanced my knowledge by completing the Best Practice in Dementia Care Certificate with the University of Stirling, strengthening my understanding of person-centred, evidence-based care. Alongside full-time work, I completed an HNC in Healthcare Practice, gaining knowledge in anatomy, physiology, mental health, and health promotion, while developing strong time-management and organisational skills.
My personal experience caring for my Grandad following his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2018 profoundly shaped my commitment to compassionate care. Supporting him until his passing in April 2024 reinforced my determination to support individuals and families during their most challenging times.
In addition, my volunteering with St John Ambulance as a first aider has strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure, assess situations quickly, and respond effectively in emergencies.
