Since starting on AHTS vessels in the mid-90s in the North Sea, I have been involved in various anchor handling and towing activities onboard, developing an in-depth knowledge and understanding of such operations. I have independently performed shallow and deep anchor handling operations; pipelayer/cable layer vessels, semi-submersible rigs (chain handling, line chasing, positioning), and jack-up rig positioning (with or without anchors). Various buoy installations, SBM maintenance/installation,chain inspections and others.
In towing operations, I have extensive experience with export terminal operations, including static towing in various setups, as well as towing of rigs and barges which was all part of my experience during my seatime.
Since 2009, after assuming my first shore-based position as a Superintendent and later advancing to management roles, I have directly managed a fleet of diverse vessels (DP2/DP3 and non-DP) including AHT, AHTS, PSV, FSIV, well stimulation, and other types. My role involved daily engagement with vessel projects and operations, acting as a liaison between clients and vessels to provide advice, guidance, and operational support. I was closely involved in creating and compliance with budgets and following up and organizing vessel maintenance schedules while overseeing the overall vessels condition and crews and their compliance with required maintenance while assuring required spares and consumables are available on the vessels.
I independently established and oversaw operations, from vessel contracts and mobilizations to the preparation and operation of each vessel type in my region. This involved ensuring vessel compliance with diverse charter, class, flag, and local requirements, as well as HSE compliance, OVID preparation and follow-up, DP trial preparations and execution, operational excellence, crew selection and evaluation, and vessel audits.
Throughout my career, I have identified and addressed bottlenecks in logistics, operations, and vessel management by implementing processes and procedures that ensured cost savings and enhanced service delivery. Although some of my roles have had administrative aspects, I have always remained closely involved in day-to-day vessel operations, working hands-on with the crew to provide guidance and resolve issues as they arose.
In the past three years, I have collaborated closely with various ship owners, deepening my understanding of their potential challenges and learning effective vessel management practices from leading companies. My exposure to major oil clients in the Middle East and Africa has further refined my understanding of their commercial and operational requirements. I have led over 90 mobilizations for some of the industry’s most demanding clients, ensuring full compliance with requirements and following up on operations to guarantee service delivery. Additionally, I have guided and trained more than 20 superintendents to perform these tasks independently, using detailed checklists and procedures to enhance their autonomy.
