I have spent my entire career in education in one form or another. Starting out as a Nursery Nurse, educating under 5’s and working my way up to Deputy Headteacher/ Acting Headteacher.
The biggest asset with this job is communication and storytelling. It requires an ability to spin a narrative in order to aquire funding, strengthen team cohersion and collaboration. These are transferable skills that can be used in all jobs but seemed to apply to your job description. You may ask why I am still not in this line of work, the simple anser is that teaching is no longer about talking with people but down to people. This does not suit my style as I feel that I am a people person and like to take others on a vitual journey with me rather than because of me. One of my roles was to develop the Early Careers Teachers (ECT’s) and I made a point of developing their skills, mannerisms and enthusiasm. However, the very nature of schools now meant that I had to work with others outside of the school. I was the link teacher for the Primary school to Secondary placements, the link to European funding (Erasmus) and the link for the local community. I enjoyed all of these roles and found that the rich tapestry of people enhanced the school I was in.
Without directly saying it, I was involved with lots of stakeholders including Government bodies( Ofsted, Exam boards), The School Governors, parents, Trust members and the children themselves. All required a different approach yet at the same time I remained true to myself, delivering what I had been asked whilst adding my own persona to the proceedings.
On the fishery side of the role I am an avid angler, gain sponsorship from the Angling Trust for the junior club I run (Ulceby Juniors) and promote fishing professionally and articulately. For the last two years I have also run a STEM fishing project with the local home-education group gaining a good reputation and following. This year alone we have had 75 junior children try out fishing, making sure those that need them have licences.
Looking at the work to be undertaken I can see that there is a need to;
